Microsoft Entra ID integration with Filemail

See how easy it is to use Single Sign-on (SSO) with Microsoft Entra ID (former Azure AD) and Filemail.

Updated over 8 months ago

SSO with Microsoft Entra ID is available to all our Enterprise level customers. Here is a guide on how to set up the integration in a few steps.

Step 1: Azure Portal

Log in to https://portal.azure.com and go to the Microsoft Entra ID panel (make sure you are logged in to the Organization which you want to integrate with Filemail).

Open the "Enterprise Applications" page.

Click on the "New Application" button and enter "Filemail" in the search box. Select Filemail in the search result and click "Sign Up For Filemail. This will take you to the login page of Filemail where you can click "Login with Entra ID". Select a admin user that can make a consent on behalf of the organization and you will be asked the following:

Click "Consent on behalf of your organisation" And "Accept".

After this you might get an error message from Filemail saying you do not have access, but you have now added the Filemail Enterprise application and it shows up in your Entra ID Enterprise App list and you can move to the next step.

Step 2: Filemail Settings

Make sure you are logged into Filemail as a company administrator and that you have a Filemail Enterprise subscription. Go to "Settings" and open the "Single Sign-On" tab.

Check the "Use single sign-on" check, select "Microsoft Entra" from the dropdown, finally enter your Azure Tenant ID into "Tenant ID" field. You can find your Tenant ID in Azure Portal in the "Overview" tab of "Microsoft Entra ID" panel:

Optional:
If you want to limit the access to Filemail to only a specific Entra Group, check the "Allow only users from specific group" checkbox and put that Object ID into "Group ID" input. You can add multiple groups to this box.

Click Save button.

Step 3: Test the integration

Now it is time to log out and back in again, but this time using the button "Login with Microsoft Entra" on the login page.

All users in your organization (or specific Entra Group) can now use this button to log into Filemail. Users that already have a normal username and password login for Filemail will automatically be converted to Entra ID users if they login via "Login with Microsoft Entra" button the first time they do it.
