Learn how to send files using Filemail with step-by-step instructions for email delivery, download links, and Portal uploads.

Updated this week

Filemail allows you to send large files fast, easy, and secure. Whether you’re sharing a single document or a full folder of high-resolution media, you can get it delivered in just a few clicks. Here’s a short article on how to send files:

Sending files from your account

  1. Go to the New transfer page.

  2. Choose your method of delivery:

    • Send as Email – your recipient will get an email from us with a link to download the file(s)

    • Get a Link – generate a downloadable link that you can share manually

  3. Fill in the recipient’s email (if you are sending as email), your message, and add your files.

  4. Click Send.

  5. You’ll be asked to configure your Transfer Options, such as:

  • Expiration time (how long you want the files to be available for download)

  • Download notifications (if you should be notified via e-mail when recipient download the files)

  • Password protection (you can password protect the transfer for extra security (optional)

Once done, click Transfer, and your file will be on its way! You’ll be able to track the delivery, see when the files were downloaded, and manage your past transfers easily.

Sending files through a Filemail Portal

If someone gave you a link (like companyname.filemail.com) to transfer files, that’s a Filemail Portal — a companies page set up to receive files. For your convenience, no Filemail account is required to deliver your files through a Portal.

To send files through a Portal:

  1. Open the link you received.

  2. Add your files or folders.

  3. Fill in the required fields of the form (may differ based on how the company configured their Portal)

  4. Click Send.

The portal owner will receive a notification that your files have been delivered to them and they can download them. Depending on their settings, you may also get an e-mail confirming that the files have been received.
